Farmers in the southeastern region of Albania have started the wheat
harvest for days now, while farmers expressed their concerns for the
cost. According to the Agricultural Directory, the planted area is of
considerable proportions, although less then one year ago.
Korca farmers are expecting to cultivate wheat focusing more on their needs for personal consumptions, since profits could be lower in comparison to the other cultures.
The high cost keeps remaining the main concern of these farmers, who confirm that they cultivate less wheat than before, just to cover their needs, since selling it is no more lucrative.
Korca farmers are abandoning the cultivation of wheat and are being oriented on cultures that are more lucrative and that have a safer market, such as medicinal plants and fruit trees.
