The Minister of Defense, Mimi Kodheli, accompanied the British Secretary
of Defense, Michael Fallon, at the joint military training “Joint
Effort 16” which is being held in Albania.
The Minister of Defense announced Albania’s plan to transform the Biza area in Martanesh.
“Biza will turn into a military training area which will be used by the Albanian, British, US and Italian armed forces. This means more security and more investments, for making the territory more accessible for the permanent troops. This was made possible after talks with the US and British Defense Secretaries, and other colleagues”, Kodheli said.
When asked if the Russian military visit in Albania was because of NATO’s decision to turn Biza into a military area, although the Russian experts declared their arrival in Tirana was a routine inspection, the Minister declared:
“It seems like Russia is coming here too, but there is not enough room even if they want to come. No, this is just a routine inspection that has nothing to do with it. Albania is an OSCE member, same as Russia. We do the same thing in Russia and other countries, and they will do it with us”, the Minister said.
