The violence against the Albanian football players and of all Albanians
who watched that match was just the end of a shameful hosting that
Serbia offered for our national team, together with the delegation, who
were invited only to get offended.
More than security, the special and anti-terror forces of Serbia transmitted angst for what could happen. Roads were empty and police officers were everywhere until the team arrived at the hotel, where another big group of police officers was there to guard the Albanian delegation.
The situation in Belgrade one day before the match could be considered the calm before the storm. Things got heated up rather quickly the next day, and the stadium turned into a gathering point of all anti-Albanian extremists, who, unfortunately, had arrived from every corner of Serbia to offend and show their racism against Albanians.
Our hymn was impossible to be heard, because the few voices of the Albanians were erased by the shameful chant of 32.000 Serbs who offended the hymn of a country that was there to play football.
These shameful chants were loud and clear not only for the Albanian delegation, but also for those of the UEFA. Yet, they didn’t find those racist. Even the chants and flags “Kosovo is Serbia” didn’t seem political.
A drone appeared on the field with the image of two representatives of the Albanian people, Isa Boletini and Ismail Qemali. It served only to explode the instincts of these fans who entered the field to hit whoever had the Albanian uniform, despite the 4000 police forces. Many of them entered the field and were able to hit our players, as if the insults of those 40 minutes were not enough.
The humanely normal decision to not turn back to the field anymore was another encouragement for the police forces to keep offending the Albanians who were present.
They searched the bags of the Albanian players as nowhere else in the world, and yet, the UEFA didn’t see any of this.
Insecurity for their lives was even higher now. Everyone was trying to call someone on the phone, trying to leave that place as soon as possible.
And yet, UEFA seems blind and deaf and President Platini brings newer assumptions and fantasies against this country that he loves so much in time of elections.
