From January 1st, all businesses connected to “middle tension” power
network will not buy energy with fees regulated by the distribution
company.
“They will be subject to bilateral agreements with traders and there will be contact between them and the private operators. They will not work with CEZ, but will be free to find their suplpiers in the market”, declared Entela Cipa, adviser at the Ministry of Energy.
The measure was predicted in the new law for the energy sector, and makes it easier for the public company, KESH, to face the obligation for supplying energy.
“They are 20% of the market, they are free and this part of the consumption takes 25%”, Cipa declared.
But although these businesses will not receive anymore energy from CEZ, businesses will keep using their lines and they will pay a fee for this.
“We need to apply the new distribution fee, based on the consumption, and then we will discuss when this can be approved according to the law, and how will the market be open”, Cipa declared.
The Ministry says that the new law fulfills and implements Albania’s obligations from the Energy Community Treaty.
Through the liberalization, the government hopes to make it easier for KESH and its obligations to buy energy from private hydropower plants, who will have more possibilities of selling energy after entering the market.
