With more than 11 works yet unpublished, Kasem Trebeshina passed away this November sixth, making Albania lose one of its greatest writers.

Trebeshina was arrested in 1953 by the communist regime after publishing the historic drama “The Liberated Kruja”. After that, he spent his life in prisons, prosecuted and treated as mentally ill.

Kasem Trebeshina has written a series of novels, such as “Merchant of Skeletons”,  “Shadows of Centuries”, and a series of short stories which have been discussed in literature for a long time, especially for “Odin Mondvalsen”, his work published in Germany and which was followed by 800-page-long study.

He was born on August 8th, 1926, in Berat. He dropped out of the Elbasan School for Teachers to join partisans against the Nazi. He attended studies in Leningrad, but couldn’t finish them.

His relationship with Ismail Kadare was very unfriendly, but they never confronted each other in public.
