A considerable lot of smuggled cigarettes were seized at the Kakavija border checkpoint, in the Greek part of the Customs.

The cigarette packs were hidden in three bags inside the luggage of the Saranda-Athina bus line. The bus driver was taken under Kakavija Police custody.

He admitted that he had been transporting the smuggled load in exchange of 50 EUR for each bag. The bus driver declared that he had taken the bags from his friend from Saranda, and had to send them to Athens.

Kakavija Customs notified that the bus driver will be sent at court. Police released an arrest order for the sender of the bags, while the bus will be returned to the transportation company, which didn’t result as implicated.

Kakavija border checkpoint is one of the biggest smuggle doors, regardless the strict controls from the Albanian and Greek Customs.

Smuggle was one of the concerns that were raised during the annual conference of the Greek Customs. The Greek Deputy Minister of Finances declared that they will place X-Ray scanners in all Greek border checkpoints and modern appliances for monitoring containers and suspicious loads.
