Justice reform, DP meets Arvizu

During a meeting with three representatives from the DP, Eduard Halimi, Arben Ristani and Oerd Bylykbashi, the US Ambassador, Alexander Arvizu, declared that for this to happen, the DP should be in parliament.

The DP asked the government to not support the initiative of their MPs who intervened in the law for the High Council of Justice, and follow the suggestions of the EU, for the reform to be all-inclusive, complete and with consultations made with all parties.

The stance of the EU, to which the ambassador also referred, is that the draft of the Socialist MPs should be part of the general structure of the reform, it should be guided by the Commission of Venice and be all-inclusive.

“The view of the US is that all-inclusiveness is the most effective approach, the most mature and prudential, with people taking the necessary time. The right path is that of a full participation in Parliament, for a full consulting with all actors. This includes the internal and international actors, such as the Commission of Venice, Euralius, the OSCE, etc. Our position is very similar to what the EU and OSCE have presented”, Arvizud declared for the media.

The US Ambassador declared that the High Council of Justice that is being discussed today should be part of this reform. When asked by Top Channel if the majority should approve the initiative, the ambassador referred once again to the all-inclusiveness concept.

“Knowing the challenges of the judiciary, our view is that the most effective and most natural approach is the one that includes all elements. This is not something that can be resolved overnight. It will take its time and needs careful, coordinated and sincere efforts from all parties. This is the only way how it should go”, Arvizu declared.

The DP might return this September in Parliament, when the new parliamentary session will start, together with the judiciary reform, for which the DP is preparing a project of their own.
