Justice Reform, condition for opening negotiations

09/11/2016 00:00

The EU Commissioner, Johannes Hahn, published the progress-report for
Albania. As anticipated, the Commission recommended opening Albania’s EU
accession negotiations.

But the condition for these negotiations is the justice reform and especially the Vetting Law, which was suspended by the Constitutional Court.

The report values that Albania has made stable progress with the five priorities given by the EU. They recognize the war against corruption and are requesting more efforts in this direction, and also for the fight against drug traffic.

The report underlines that Brussels wants to see concrete results with the investigation and criminal prosecution of our high-level officials.

This is described as the most positive report ever issued by Brussels for Albania. The conditions will be reconfirmed in December, when the Venice Commission will have published their opinion for the Vetting Law.
