Justice corruption

The United States Ambassador Alexander Arvizu declared that a poll made
by him shows that corruption is the biggest problem in the judiciary.

Although the corrupted people do not represent the entire system, the United States diplomat declared that some judges should be in prison today.

“The poll question was ‘What was the biggest challenge for the judiciary’? Probably ‘police corruption’. That’s what my answer would be. I believed that some would stand out for non-efficiency but it wasn’t the case for prosecutors. I received more answers for the judiciary and judges. This poll might not be scientific, but it reflects the opinion of most Albanians. Then I thought that this is not right about judges, because we all know that there are some judges that should be in prison, – everyone knows this – but most of the judges don’t fall in this category, because the problem is not just with judges, but its with the society and rule of law”, Arvizu declared.

The Albanian President participated in the symposium organized by the United States Embassy for policies that need to be followed in the judiciary. President Nishani admitted that there are corrupted judged, but he added that dedicated judges need to get promoted. For the President, this is the challenge of the future.

“The challenge between perception and reality. Unfortunately, the Albanian people have this huge challenge with the entire problematic and the way how our society works. Is it the Albanian judiciary corrupted in general? Personally, I would not take the courage to say ‘yes’. Do we have corrupted judges? I would say ‘certainly yes’. But we also have brave judges and prosecutions who are dedicated and who love their profession”, Nishani declared.

The corruption and impunity within the justice system has been a constant critic for the system and the institution that inspects and appoints judges, the High Council of Justice.
