Only during June-July, the period when the summer season starts, 1.6 million visitors have entered Albania.

This data was collected by the Interior Ministry in the border checkpoints only for two months, a period when 70% of the summer tourists will enter Albania for the summer of 2011, according to the Tourism World Organization. During June and July, the greatest number of visitors in Albania were foreigners, almost 913.000, while the Albanian tourists were around 716.000.

Compared to June-July of 2010, the number of foreign tourists entering Albania has increased with 135.000, while the Albanian visitors have decreased with 111.000. These statistics show that the number of foreign tourists is higher than that of Albanians. A positive aspect from this data is the fact that there are less foreign citizens leaving Albania during this time, compared to one year ago. This means that the foreigners who visit Albania for more than one day, in 2011 are more than during 2010.

But unfortunately, the benefits of the tourism economy are fewer, after comparing it with the Albanian tourists going out. Only during June and July there have been around 661.000 Albanians leaving the country, or 162.000 more than in the last season. The number of Albanian citizens who have passed their holidays abroad is only 10% less than the number of Albanians who have returned home for their holidays.

This result warns that the net revenues from tourism will be small. There are still no processed data, as in which countries the Albanians have traveled mostly,  but according to tourist operators, there is a growing tendency towards Greece. Latest data from Tourism World Organization say that one visitor in Albanian spends 730 USD or almost two times more than three years ago.
