After his visits in Western Balkan, the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, is even more convinced that the region belongs to the EU.

Juncker gave this declaration at the Sophia summit, in Bulgaria, in a meeting with Western Balkan leaders, including Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama.

Reiterating the possibility that the Balkan countries could join the EU in 2025, the high-level EU official added that none of them has met the conditions to do it now.

“The accession is not a distant dream, but a near reality. However, reforms are more important than the calendar”, Juncker declared.

The President of the European Commission underlined that the EU remained dedicated to the EU perspective of Western Balkan, announcing that a summit will be held in Sophia this May between the EU and countries of the region.

The main topic in this summit will not be accession, but migration problems and the economic situation in the region.

The President of the European Commission declared in a joint press conference with the Bulgarian Prime Minister, Bojko Borisov, that the Sophia summit will help to clarify the work that needs to be done for Balkan countries to improve their relations with each other.

The President of Kosovo and his Serbian counterpart sat on the same table during the summit. To justify his meeting with Thaci, the Serbian President said that he was doing that to save Serbs.
