Judiciary reform, Hasneziri: “Inspection cannot be done by a Parliamentary commission”

The Judge of Serious Crimes, Dr.Luan Hasneziri, says that the judiciary
reform risks to damage the independence of the judiciary. Hasneziri
refers to the chapter for creating a special commission for verifying
professional ability and assets.

“I agree that all judges should have their professional abilities tested, and their assets, to see if these supposed ties with the crime exist. But these evaluations should be done by constitutional institutions that guarantee independence. I am against the idea to have these commissions approved by the Parliament, which would mean the judiciary is under the power of politics”, Hasneziri declared.

Hasneziri is against the interruption of the constitutional mandate of the High Council of Justice members and the Prosecutor General three months after the law enters in effect. However, he is in favor of turning the HCJ into a High Judiciary Council, despite his doubts for this part too.
