The United States Ambassador to Tirana, Alexander Arvizu, declared in
front of the leaders of seven regional task force investigation teams
that Albania has a very corrupted judiciary.
“The problem with Albania is very serious. According to Transparency International, which is a respected organization, the judiciary in Albania is the least trusted. More than 80% of the Albanians see the judiciary as corrupted or very corrupted”, Arvizu declared.
The United States Ambassador declared that the judiciary corruption can undermine the entire justice system, the trust and security of the public, and it will also stop businessmen from investing. The United States diplomat declared that the embassy has attended important meetings with the Prosecutor General, important judges, the Minister of Justice and the Minister of Interior, to discuss how this public corruption can be fought. Arvizu was open by giving a solution when a Prosecutor feels under pressure.
“What I have learned in Albania is that it is like a small village where everybody knows each other. At least that’s what I have been told, that the regional office might feel pressure while investigating a powerful person in that area. But another investigation office can refer it to another place, which is free from that pressure”, Arvizu declared.
The Prosecutor General asked for more commitment in these units.
“I have the right to demand from them what the public opinion demands from me: more commitment in these structures, their maximum during my mandate. I will inspect constantly for tangible results”, Llalla declared.
The Head of the Albanian Prosecution added that all new leaders in the Prosecution have been ordered for joint proactive actions against corruption.
