The Head of Judges Union, Gerd Hoxha, declared this Saturday that resignation is individual, and whoever felt like doing it should resign.

But the resignations, once just a gossip, are now turning to reality. Two judges have resigned, a third one wants to retire due to the age.

Brunilda Kasmi, Judge at the Tirana Civilian Court; Merita Xhani, Judge at the Durres Court; Nazmie Pengili, Judge in Kruja, have also resigned.

Pengili’s retirement age was completed on April 10th, while Kasmi, who is also candidate for the High Council of the Judiciary, has resigned for health problems: “I want to underline that I had no problems with my wealth. I am resigning for health problems”, she says.

Xhani also said that she suffers health problems which don’t allow her to make her trip for the vetting. “It has nothing to do with the Vetting Law. I have been suffering from a heart disease for the past two years”, she says.

Since when the vetting law entered in effect in 2017, there have been six resignations of judges.

The High Council of the Judiciary will also review the request of the Justice Minister, who has asked them to fire four judges, Petraq Curri, Ergys Selmani, Ahmet Jangulli and Ken Dhima.
