The President of the Supreme Court, based on the recent developments for
the judiciary reform, said that the community of judges is responsible
and wants to get involved in the reform that has already started.

“We support the reform because we are a responsible community. We support the reform because we want to reinforce democracy in Albania. We want to get involved and we want to contribute substantially with its realization”, declared President Xhezair Zaganjori.

Referring to the progress report, Zagajori presented the problems in front of the judges and said that the public’s trust on the judiciary remains problematic.

“We express the need to fight corruption with effectiveness, which is mentioned as one of the main concerns for all powers, especially for the judiciary”, Zaganjori declared.

The Minister of Justice, Nasip Naco, says that there must be another method of evaluation for Judges, besides the one that has been used so far by the High Council of Justice.

“As a judiciary minister, I don’t have any personal agenda to attack any judge. On the contrary, I have always asked that the best part of the system should be identified, judges and prosecutors alike. I cannot say that I can chose the best judges and prosecutors through the current system, that’s why the Ministry of Justice is looking into the best variants from EU countries”, Naco declared.

The Minister added that their objective remains to consolidate the independence and impartiality of the judiciary. The Minister of Justice added that the government will support the Magistrate School as the pillar of legal education. After the voting, judge Artan Gjermeni won the right to represent judges in the Board of Directors at the Magistrate School.
