The US State Secretary, John Kerry, thanked Albania in his weekly press
release, for the contribution given by sheltering the Iranian opposition
members.
“I visited Tirana during this year and discussed with the Albanian government how we can assist them to make it easier to transfer the last group of the Iranian opposition, MEK, part of the Freedom Camp. Albania has an old tradition for protecting vulnerable communities, as they have shown during the Kosovo conflict and with the protection of a huge number of Jews during the WWII. I am grateful also for this case that Albania was ready to play an important humanitarian role”, Kerry said.
John Kerry is the highest US official who has thanked officially Albania for the help given with this issue, together with Senator John McCain, who thanked the Albanian government publicly one day after the mujahedeens arrived in Tirana.
