Jihadists return at Tirana’s mosque

Eight months after the Prosecution started the investigations against 13
people who were suspected of recruiting Albanian devotees to fight in
Syria, the Prosecution suggested the Muslim Community to take under
administration the Unaza e Re mosque in Tirana.

The Prosecution made this request due to new information coming from the Secret Service, who raise concern about the activation of another suspicious imam in this mosque.

The Secret Service say that the Imam has returned from abroad and has been preaching to the followers, who are local residents. The Secret Service also says that he has made threats, but this has not been confirmed yet.

When contacted by Top Channel, sources from the Muslim Community confirmed that they are not aware about this request. But even if this suggestion arrives, they say they cannot intervene, since the mosque is a private investment. The Muslim Community leader says they tried to communicate with the followers, but they have not been cooperative.

The 13 men who were arrested, including the two Imams at this mosque, have been detained by the police. The secret service says that 70 Albanian citizens in total, including women and children, have gone to Syria for ISIS and Al-Nusra.
