The Court of Appeal in Tirana decided to leave in act the decision of
the Court of First Degree, which had given the security measure “bound
to appear in Court” for Sadik Cela.
The latter is one of the four National Guard soldiers suspected for the murders of January 21st in front of the Prime Ministry Office during an opposition’s protest.
Although the murders took place 10 months ago, there is no final verdict for Cela’s security measure, who is going for the second time through all Court levels.
Initially, Cela was sentenced with 30 days to prison, but the appeal rejected it and gave house arrest. The Supreme Court then rejected the Court of Appeals decision and left in act the 30 days to prison verdict.
After the deadline for the custody measure was over, the prosecution asked sentence to prison for Sadi Cela, but the Court of First Degree and that of the Appeal decided that Cela was only “bound to appear in court”.
The Prosecution is expected to appeal this measure at the Supreme Court.
