The five suspects for the Jan Prenga murder-abduction case have appeared in court today where they were left in detention by the judge, despite denying taking part in the killing.
The court upheld the prosecution’s request setting the prison sentence, while arrest warrants have been issued for 6 other people.
The arrested for the crime occurred on January 17-th outside Tirana, are Leonard Hajri, Bajram Hajri, Elton Hajri, Olsi Turja and Festim Bexhdili, who during the interrogation have rejected the charges brought against them, and did not cooperate with the investigative team.
Top Channel reporter Anila Hoxha talked with two defense attorneys of the arrested after the court verdict.
Defense lawyer Sokol Tahiri stated that the prosecution has not produced evidence proving that his client Elton Hajri has hidden the body of the victim.
“They had no evidence to support their charges, not even footage to prove it, but Elton Hajri has not been in that resort for three years”, stated Tahiri, referring to the Shijak hotel resort where the murder is suspected to have taken place.
Earlier the investigators have stated that Jak Prenga was abducted as a result a considerable drug deal done wrong, involving his brother and the abductors. On Thursday the Albanian police released a statement saying they are confident the missing person Jak Prenga, was abducted and died of mistreatment, before being sent to the “Golden” resort in Shijak, near Tirana. The authorities also tried to discredit the substantial amount of speculation in the national media on the matter, saying that the majority of those are untrue. The search for body of the 49-year-old is still under way.
