The Kosovo President, Atifete Jahjaga, sent a letter to the President of
the European Council, Herman Von Rompuy; the head of the EU Foreign
Policy, Catherine Ashton, and the five states: USA, Germany, Great
Britain, France and Italy. Jahjaga expressed her concern regarding the
Serbian warnings for holding local elections in Kosovo, considering it
as a violation of the Kosovo sovereignty.

According to Telegraf, the President underlines in her letter that by tolerating this action undertaken by Serbia, the EU mediated dialogue and the implementation of the agreements reached between the Kosovo and Serbia are put at risk.

“I appeal the EU and the international community to show determination and now allow these elections in the Kosovo territory. Serbia must be clear that one of the key requirements for the EU integration is the principle of a good relation with the neighbors”, Jahjaga declared.

She underlines in her letter that the local elections in Kosovo challenge the territorial integrity and provoke Kosovo’s destabilization, adding that the Republic of Kosovo cannot allow any of the neighboring countries to operate parallel structures in the territory of Kosovo.

“Sine the declaration of independence in 2008, the Republic of Kosovo was built on democratic principles with the clear goal to become a member of the Euro-Atlantic organizations. The European Union has played an important role in Kosovo, for many years, in the construction of a democratic, all inclusive society that respects the law. Our European road is a joint effort with the EU and the international community for building a stable state, a factor of peace and stability, and an example of respecting the human rights for all citizens”, the President declared.

She added that “as President of Kosovo, I am committed to these democratic principles. Therefore, I am writing you to express my deep concern about the warnings of Serbia for keeping the local elections in the Kosovo territory, with which they violate the sovereignty of my state; they challenge the territorial integrity and provoke destabilization in Kosovo. Kosovo will not allow any neighbor country or their representatives to lead parallel structures within our territory, or organize elections in the Kosovo territory”.

The President declared that any attempt of Serbia for organizing elections in the Kosovo territory violates the international norms and laws, and the European basic principles, all of which are unacceptable and illegal.
