The Italian President, Giorgio Napolitano, is holding an official visit
in Tirana. He arrived this Tuesday, and on Wednesday morning he met with
the Albanian President, Bujar Nishani.
His first visit was 17 years ago, as president of Italy. The Italian Head of State was welcomed by his Albanian counterpart, Bujar Nishani.
Italian President, Napolitano, declared that Italy will keep advocating for Albania: “The most important thing for an advocate is to not lose our cause. We are certain that we will win our cause, the cause for Albania to be part of the European Union”, the Italian President declared.
“It is important for this unification to be a card with which Albania will be presented in Euroepan institutions”, Napolitano declared during a press conference.
Nishani underlined that Italy is a key partner and very important in the economic area, underlining that in this meeting they expressed the interest to progress with the economic cooperation and to promote Italian investments in Albania, in infrastructure, energy, manufacture and services.
The cooperation for the TAP project is of great interest too, while Nishani expressed his trust that Italy will help with the Adriatic-Ionian project.
Nishani declared that he discussed with his Italian counterpart about the European Perspective of Albania.
“We are determined to make essential changes that will enable the country’s integration in the European Union”, Nishani declared.
The Head of the Albanian state declared that he had guaranteed his homologue that our country will keep playing an active role in the regional cooperation process, by promoting the principle of all-inclusiveness, mainly through regional initiatives.
“Albania welcomes the Prishtina-Belgrade process, as two independent and sovereign countries with all agreements reached so far”, Nishani declared.
The Italian President also met with Prime Minister Rama.
Napolitano has received from his Albanian counterpart the “Flag Order”. At 17:00 he will hold a speech in front of the Albanian Parliament Members.
