The Italian Police ended the debate about the spying equipment. The
Italian Police Director, Alessandro Panza, sent a letter to Prosecutor
Adriatik Llalla, confirming that the equipment was not used for any
spying program and that it has always been under the control of the
Italian authorities, just for training purposes.

Panza confirms what Minsiter Tahiri said about the signing of the training agreement on June 2007, bu then Minister of Interior, Bujar Nishani, today President of the Republic.

“A cooperation agreement in the fight against criminality between the Italian and Albanian government foresees that both parties cooperate with the training and fight against criminality”, the letter says. To implement this agreement, two specialized operators of the Italian specialized forces traveled to Albania for police training. The Italian personnel takes a vehicle and the IMSICATCHER equipment, Vortex model, produced by the Ercom company.”, the Director says.

“The configuration of this equipment cannot be modified by the operator and does not allow tracking. The equipment has always been under the care of the Italian operators, and was guarded when it was not being used for training purposes”, the letter says.

The Italian police reminds the Albanian Prosecution that based on the agreement, they enjoy immunity from the civilian, criminal and adminisitrative prosecution for every action made for the training.
