The Italian National Anti-Mafia Directory and the Italian Carabinieri,
in cooperation with the European Union, undertook an extended anti-drug
operation in Pescara, which destroyed an important narcotics corridor.

Albania-Kosovo-Bosnia-Croatia-Slovenia-Italy, this is the axes in which the traffickers operated trough three organizations, which circulated hundreds of kilograms of all types of drugs into the Italian market. Their center seems to have been Pescara, in Abruzzo. Almost all members of the organizations are Albanians, who operated in all of the above-mentioned countries.

The operation named “Ellenica” has involved more than 200 carabinieri, who have searched shops, apartments and basements, and arrested 71 people. 100 others are under investigation. 200 kilograms of heroine and 500 kilograms of marijuana have been seized.

Similar operations have taken place in Albania, Kosovo and Bosnia. Investigators say that thanks to the coordinated work of the police in all countries, they were able to locate and destroy the biggest drug traffic of the recent years.

The Albanian Prosecution General declared that they arrested six of eight suspects, among them a member of the so called Durres Gang, who has been sentenced to life in prison for crimes committed by his organization, and sixteen years for leading a drug traffic from the Tirana Prison, through phone calls.

The international arrest order has been communicated to two other people, besides Dokle, who are currently being held in these premises, Jorid Xhunga and Shefqet Vate. The Prosecution of Serious Crimes in Tirana told Top Channel that there are strong suspicions that these three people were leading an international drug traffic from the prison cell.
