Isa Boletini was born on January 15th, at the Boletini Tower, near
Mitrovica. He was killed in an ambush by Montenegrins in Podgorica, on
January 23rd 1916, together with his two sons, Halil and Zahid; two
nephews and other warriors.
The human remains of Boletini and his fighters were handed over to the Mitrovica Commune on July 2011.
The statue in Saraj, Skopje, has also caused debates between those who say that the Albanian Party in Macedonia, BDI, misuses this glorious figure for the elections. Others say that the statue should be placed in the center of Skopje, since Albanians fund their own statues in villages while Gruevski builds them with public money in cities and towns.
