Irish experience for territorial reform

The Minister of State for Local Government Matters, Bledi Cuci, declared
in Dublin that the majority is open for the opposition’s suggestions
about the territorial reform, but their starting point is the map.

“The map is the starting point. That’s where we should start, with the consolidation of the local government, so that it can attract more competences from the local government. Let’s build the right structures so that the reform can have the right gravity and serve to better purposes in quality and quantity. The reform doesn’t end with the map, but that is the starting point”, Cuci declared.

Minister Cuci and a wide government and parliamentary delegation visited Ireland to learn from the experience of this country in the territorial reform.

“Ireland held the local elections one month ago, and they applied for the first time the system with 31 municipalities. Ireland is similar to Albania as regards the local government structure, and the reduction of its structure in 31 municipalities shows that we have much to learn. The purpose is to learn from the Irish experts about the implementation and difficulties”, Cuci declared.
