The Irish Prime Minister, Enda Kenny, made a keynote address to the
European Parliament to mark his country’s six-month stint in the EU
policy chair.

Although the enlargement policy was mentioned by the end of the speech, it will be one of the areas for which the Irish promise to focus on the process credibility.

“This presidency will give priority to a credible enlargement policy. We expect to congratulate Croatia on July 1st as the newest EU member. We will work with the countries that are in different negotiation phases to push the process forward, such as Iceland, Turkey and Montenegro. Important decisions could also be possible with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia, Albania and Kosovo”, Kenny declared.

Some of the Irish presidency priorities in the next six months will be employment, stability, economic growth, foreign policy and enlargement.
