After the resignation of Elisa Spiropali, the government ahs commanded
the Deputy Minister of Finances, Irena Beqiraj, as Director of the
Albanian Customs.
“The Customs has made progress, but our ambition is even bigger”, declared the Minister of Finances, Shkelqim Cani, after presenting her as the new Director.
“We need to establish more modern principles for managing and governing the Tax and Customs administrations. We want these two administrations to function and to support their work in a modern risk analysis”, declared the commanded Director, Irena Beqiraj.
Minister Cani listed some of the results which he said the Customs had marked during the past year, but after being asked by journalists, he commented for the first time about the results of the agreement with Crown Agents.
“Some things could have been done better by both parties, Customs and Crown Agents. We are waiting for bigger results, but the expectancy was also bigger for this part of the year”, Cani said.
The performance of Tax and Customs will be decisive for the stability of the budget this year, whose risks have increased for several reasons.
The government foresees a strong increase in the revenues compared to one year ago. In front of the new risks, the IMF seems to be pressuring about additional guarantee for the budget to not be lower than the predictions. Will there be newer propositions for raising taxes? The Minister of Finances excludes this option.
“We have the pension reform, the territorial reform, the energy reform and many other reforms. Thy reduce the risks and the need for new interventions in the tax system”, Cani said.
