14 of the 210 Mujahideens that are expected to come in Albania have
arrived this Thursday in Tirana under the protection of the Albanian
state.
They will stay for a period of time in the Babrru center, until they will be regulated in apartments, in Tirana. Then it will be up to them to live in our country, if they can integrate.
Based on the international agreements, they have the right to apply in other states for political asylum. They enjoy the refugee status in Albania after a request of the United States government. Their accommodation will be surveyed by the security forces.
Sources from the Interior Ministry say that outside the asylum center they will be guarded through a special security system. The Mujahideen are coming to our country after the Albanian government answered positively to a request made by the United States of America. The total number of asylum seekers is 210.
The refugees are members of the MEK organization (Mujahedeen-e-Khalq), which opposed the Iranian government and has been on the terrorist list until four years earlier. The activists are currently sheltered in Iraq, and according to the United States, they are not safe there. The organization has around 3000 members that need to be sheltered in other countries, and Albania accepted to admit 210 of them.
