IOC recognizes Kosovo, free path for Olympic Games

Kosovo is a member of the International Olympic Committee. This is the
unanimous decision taken this Tuesday in the meeting of Monaco.
In October, the Board of the International Olympic Committee, IOC, decided to temporarily recognize Kosovo and proposed to recognize it permanently at the Monaco meeting.
According to the IOC decision, Kosovo has fulfilled the requests for being accepted. One of the requests is the recognition of most of the international countries.
This decision makes way for Kosovo sportsmen to be part of the Olympic games, starting from 2016 in Rio, Brazil.
Different from FIFA, the International Olympic Committee does not condition the membership with the acceptance of a country with full rights from the UN. Kosovo has been currently recognized by 108 UN members out of 193.
