While the opposition has not yet made any evidence public for their
accusations that the Armed Forces are involved in drug traffic, they
still claim they have them, and now the majority proposed the creation
of a Parliamentary Investigative Commission.

The request was made to the Parliament this Saturday, an initiative of the Socialist Party and the Socialist Movement for Integration.

The draft decision says that the object of the investigation is related to verifying the accusations articulated publicly by high-rank political representatives, claiming that the Armed Forces infrastructure has been used for drug traffic.

The draft-decision also says that the Commission aims discovering the verification of evidence on which these public accusations have been based.

The Majority proposes that the Commission should be composed of nine members from the majority and four from the opposition, with an operating term of 30 days.

The vice leader of the Socialist Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, says that the full investigation of these accusations have a special importance for the image of the Armed Forces of a NATO member country.

“If there is no evidence or facts, these accusations damage the image of the Armed Forces in Albania and the international arena”, Balla declared.

Democratic Party increases accusations

The Democratic Party reinforced its accusations through a declaration released by their Spokesperson, Silvi Bardhi, who referred to the information given by an Albanian daily newspaper of the Democratic Party.

“The journalist of Rilindja Demokratike has discovered the mechanism of the distribution of drugs through military airplanes. He says that the news will continue tomorrow. This news has disturbed the peace of political chiefs of traffickers, and the journalist has received a threatening message on his phone, a message that was sent from internet, to hide the tracks”, Bardhi declared.

Bardhi declared that the government and the Prime Minister should answer for this issue.

“The Democratic Party asked the Prime Minister to take measures and support journalists in these difficult days. These traffics cannot be made without the blessing of the Prime Minister and his Ministers”, the Albanian opposition declared.
