Interior Minister Fatmir Xhafaj, last night’s guest on Top Channel’s
“Top Story”, told journalist Sokol Balla that there was information that
the Democratic Party was planning violence in Kavaja, but the
government’s decision to cancel elections there was more politically
related than about security issues, since the police was prepared for
any event.
The Prime Minister took that decision to help the negotiations with the Democratic Party, although their appeals for an open conflict cannot help the situation.
“We were notified about groups outside the Democratic Party, but under their influence, who would try to create conflicts and who would intimidate voters. They would use these incidents as alibi for the failed negotiations”, the Interior Minister declared.
He rejected the accusations of the Democratic Party leader, who said that in Kavaja there would be a conflict between the former Mayor’s gang, between each other.
The Minister admitted there are influences from foreign powers who want to take advantage from the situation and destabilize the country. For this reason, he said they have cooperated with the Secret Service, which also informed them about possible terror attacks during Easter, even against the Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha, who was one of the people that were threatened.
