The Albanian Minister of Interior, Sander Lleshaj, held a meeting with the Police Chiefs from 12 Albanian Districts.
In this meeting, they had the chance to analyze and discuss the issues of the past year, and the projects for 2020.
The General Chief of Police, Ardi Veliu, appreciated the achievements of the past year.
The Kukes District was mostly praised for the great work of preventing crime since there was not a single murder in this district for 2019.
Minister Lleshaj listed the main priorities for 2020, focusing on the fight against organized crime and road safety.
He said that very soon the government will approve the package of laws known by the name “KCK”, which aims to hit the organized crime.
“Organized crime is our number 1 priority. People sentenced for serious crimes, corruption, etc, right after the law they will have police officers knocking on their doors.
“If they have served, let’s say, 10 years for corruption or organized crime, and they own an asset which they cannot prove that has derived from legal activities, it will be seized”, the Interior Minister declared.
Four special units will be set up with the best experts in order to deal with new criminal developments.
“We will make significant changes compared to last year.
“We will change the structures and will create specialized units to combat those criminal phenomena.
“Unit E will deal with Economic Crime. It will be a strong, specialized unit with trained experts.
Unit I will deal with intelligence. There will be a radical “change with this unit, by turning the information networks into professional networks.
“Unit C will deal with Computer Crime. It is impossible and unnecessary to create local units. We are going to center our energies to a special structure of computer crime.
“Unit K has already been formed. It deals with people on the run. This unit will have a structure of hunters who will prioritize those on the run”, Lleshaj declared.
