INSTAT publishes Census

The Institution of Statistics published the final Census data, after the
several debates over the ethnic and religious questions.

According to the data, 98.77% of the population has Albanian as first language,  0.54% have Greek, 82.58% were declared as Albanians, 14% refused to answer, 0.87% were declared as Greeks, while the others refused. 56.7% declared to be Muslims, 10.03% Catholics, 6.75% Orthodox, while 14% refused to answer.  

The Minister of Technology and Innovation, Genc Pollo, declared that these reseults are the answer to those who have used the Census to divide the Albanians.

As declared even before, the population in Albania is 2.851.741 million, with a fall of 8%, compared to 2001. According to INSTAT, the reasons are emigration and lower rate birth. And also for the first time in the history of censuses, most of the Albanian population lives in urban areas. The number of people refusing to answer to the census is 21839, or elss than 0.7%.
