Inspector arrested for leaking police information to criminals

Inspector Engrid Henaj, part of the “Shqiponja” Unit in Tirana, was arrested after a joint investigation with the Kavaja Prosecution.

The inspector is charged with supporting crime authors and power abuse. Henaj helped citizen F.L, who has arrested several times for a series of thefts, to escape the police.

Investigators proved that Henaj was being paid for that information. He may have been helping other criminals as well.

The Kavaja Court has left him in prison, while investigations are undergoing.

This Wednesday the Internal Service suspended another Tirana Police officer for keeping out of the decriminalization application a 18-month conviction for power abuse.

These actions come in a time when the Minister of Interior, Fatmir Xhafaj, expressed his personal commitment to go on with this vetting of the police forces.
