Inspecting excise goods

The Albanian Customs and “Crown Agents” will start a wide campaign for inspecting any subject that trades excise goods.

“These products have a higher risk of smuggling or evasion, that’s why this campaign will target importers, producers, distributors, warehouses and retailers”, declared Elisa Spiropali, General Director of the Tax Office.

“In this campaign we will identify and investigate the cases that maybe have not happened recently, but they might have started time ago, depending on when the evasion will be discovered”, declared David Smith, Director of the “Crown Agents” program.

The campaign aims to prevent evasion and to raise awareness among economic operators to implement the laws.

The Customs Director, Spiropali, declared that they will take measures against anyone who will evade obligations intentionally or due to neglect.

The Deputy Minister of Finances, Ervin Mete, says that this initiative will make lawmakers to not be attacked anymore by informality.

“Both administrations have realized 230 million USD more during the September-May period, compared to the same period of one year ago. From January to May only, these administrations have collected 130 million USD more than the same period of one year ago. We expect this trend to continue, because that is our goal”, declared Ervin Mete, Deputy Minister of Finances.
