Inert waste dumped at Soda forest

Great amounts of inert waste materials are dumped each day at the Soda Forest, near Vlore coastline.

These are solid wastes that are excavated from constructions sites all over the city. This activity has started many years ago, but today it has intensified the pollution, as result of some construction works that have recently started.

Soil excavated from construction sites of new apartment buildings is transported by the trucks of construction companies and then dumped at this part of the city, damaging the natural view and endangering the forest existence. If this was not enough, there are a lot of urban wastes that can be found everywhere around the place.

The Soda Forest, once extended in 670 hectares, today has 115 hectares occupied by illegal constructions, mainly residential buildings that have been included in the legalization process of the government. Other 10-15 hectares were burned down by summer fires, and the remaining part is full of waste.

The municipality has assigned another location, but private companies dump wastes at this site for saving transportation money.
