The World Bank raises the alarm that almost half of the Albanian poor
families have not profited from the economic growth, but on the
contrary, they have faced dropped revenues.
A newly published report of the World Bank says that from 2005 to 2010, 40% of the Albanian poor families not only have not had an increased welfare, but they have faced reduced revenues with 1.2% each year.
This places Albania among the few countries in Europe and Asia where the poor class is getting poorer, while the rest keeps having a better life.
A similar distribution of wealth has been seen in Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia and Georgia. All other countries have had poor people profiting from the economic growth.
But the increased inequality is not the only problem. The document of the World Bank confirms that the poor have fewer chances to find jobs or get education. This leaves them longer in poverty.
The report says that the number of students attending universities and coming from these families is 2.5 times lower than that of the 60%. The unemployment level is almost with the same figures.
Inequality and concentration of wealth have turned into one of the biggest problems even in developed economies, including the USA and the EU.
With the crisis, wealth kept concentrating on the rich, leaving the other classes behind. A tendency that according to the World Bank has affected even Albania.
