For this February, Albanians have topped the list of asylum seekers in
Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Luxembourg and Switzerland, catching up with
Serbs who were leading the list until January 2014.
The report number 39 of FRONTEX says there is an increased number of asylum seekers in Great Britain, while there are illegal border crossing even in Hungary.
“Great Britain reported 140 applications for asylum seekers only from Albanians in February 2014, outnumbering Serbs who have almost 100 applications for this month. Hungarian reports say that the number of Albanians in the Hungarian border has increased since November 2013”, the report says.
116 Albanians have applied for asylum in Sweden (+97%), 26 in Belgium (-33%), 54 in Luxembourg (+391%) and 15 in Switzerland, (+650%).
The Risk Analyze Unit in Warsaw shows that from February to March 2014 ther ehave been 3100 applications from Balkan countries, with a 17% drop in general.
But while the number of Serbs, Bosnians and Macedonians is dropping, the number of Albanians has doubled in February, compared to January.
Other member countries increased the number of repatriations with 61%. In February, the five most affected Schengen countries returned 1248 people to Balkan.
40% of the Albanian asylum seekers were returned. 200 of them through the police and 79 voluntarily. Switzerland holds the record for repatriations, refusing five people for every new applicant.
