The strong increase in the price of fuel has forced fishermen in Vlora to turn off the engines of their fishing boats. For almost 10 days they have stopped their activity anchoring the trawlers in the quays of the Vlora port.
The doubling of the price of oil used by fishermen for the boats has made the costs unaffordable, making living more difficult for their families. The rise in fuel prices has also led fishermen to raise the price of seafood. For about a month the situation in the port is silent, at a time when trawlers had to be offshore to carry out their activity.
Fishermen say that they used to get oil for 65 lek or 70 lek per liter, today we get it for 160 lek, as they need at least 50 thousand lek of fuel for a few hours at sea, and these prices according to them cannot justify hunting.
Earlier, unemployment in the port forced many fishermen to quit their jobs and operate with fishing boats from Egypt.
