Incident in Fule’s presence

The boycott of the Albanian opposition took most of the attention in the
high-level meeting between Albania and the European Union, when the
Democratic Party presented some requests as conditions for stopping
their boycott in Parliament, which were mostly focused on the
Parliamentary investigation.

A harsh exchange of accusations took place even in presence of Mr. Stefan Fule, between the Democratic MP Arben Ristani and Prime Minister Rama.

When Rama expressed his readiness to establish an Investigative Commission for the past of MPs and administration employees, without violating the Constitution and Human Rights. Rama said that for this should agree also the Democratic MP who is a lawyer and who has also been in prison. Arben Ristani reacted by saying that this language of the Prime Minister is what left the opposition outside the Parliament, and he called Rama a “thug”.

Fule: Political debates, not on streets

Although the conversation went beyond the normal tone, the Commissioner for Enlargement, Stefan Fule, considered this meeting  an opportunity for both parties to find common grounds, so that the opposition can abandon the boycott, which Fule has criticized in his speech.

“I heard the concerns of the opposition, not for the first time and I hope not for the last one. I made it clear that leaving the Parliament and making the battle on the streets is not the European way, and this doesn’t help bringing Albania closer to the European ambition. I appealed the government and the opposition to use this opportunity for the opposition to return to Parliament, and for the government to guarantee that the opposition will have what they need for their important duty”, Fule declared.

Rama: We condemn violence in Parliament

Prime Minister Rama declared that the incident that caused the opposition to leave is now being investigated at court, and the Socialist Party distances itself from these acts.

“We will review the regulations of our parliamentary group, and we will establish sanctions against this behavior, by even removing them from the Parliamentary Group of the SP”, Rama declared.

The Prime Minister expressed his readiness to resolve the political stalemate by starting from this Thursday:

“We are open for any request, and today we hear the request regarding the investigative commissions. We are ready to vote any request of the Democratic Party starting from this Thursday. If there will be other requests, we will be here. But no one must ask us to become the baby sitters of the opposition. The opposition must walk on her own feet”, the Prime Minister declared.

The opposition declared through MP Majlinda Bregu that despite being outside the Parliament, there’s no doubt that the opposition wants to contribute for the integration, but she didn’t comment Fule’s appeal for the boycott.

“The integration is a major process for the Albanian people and we will not block any reform. We were present today, although we are not present in Parliament. We have been an active part of the Parliament until we lost the rights for which the opposition stands. This is the question that should be asked to the majority”, Bregu declared.

Besides being reserved on the anti-boycott declarations of Fule, the opposition leaders didn’t seem very pleased about his message in Tirana.

This is his last message as Commissioner for Enlargement in Balkan, after completing a mandate that has not been that easy from the Albanian side, with frequent conflicts and crises. There have been even attacks against Fule, for which the first reflection seems to have come from Prime Minister Rama.

“Being able to be liked by both parties in Albania you must be the Pope of Rome or the Chancellor of Germany. The Commissioner must be very pleased for his work with us, not only because he has been applauded by both parties, but because both parties have complained about him in different times. That’s why on behalf of our people and of our country, I thank him with gratitude for everything he has done to support us”, Rama declared.
