This Friday was the International Day of Smile, but ethics didn’t smile
at the Prosecution. Another incident has involved two Prosecutors and
the Prosecutor General during the meeting of Prosecutors, where they
would vote for a new member of the Magistrature Board.
The meeting took an unpredicted direction right after Dritan Rreshka was chosen. Top Channel sources say that the Secretary of the Prosecutors’ Association, Ida Ahmetlliu, proposed the discharging of the President of the Association of Prosecutors, Shkelqim Hajdari. The voting was not part of the daily agenda.
This was enough for the Prosecutors to raise their tones and start offending each others. The media reported that the Prosecutor General was also involved, and asked both prosecutors to leave the room. Sources say that after some harsh verbal exchanges, the Prosecutor General has punched the Chief Prosecutor of Appeal, Shkelqim Hajdari.
But this version was rejected by the Press Office of the Prosecutor General, which says that during the voting, two of the members of the Presidency of the Association of Prosecutors, which is a non-profit organization outside the official institution, had their quarrel near the Prosecutor General, Adriatik Llalla.
“The tones of the debate between the members were high. The Prosecutor General asked both of them to leave the room, so that the situation could be calmed down, and everything continued normally”, the declaration says.
The declaration continues by explaining that the “Prosecution General must clarify the media and public opinion that the Prosecutor General, Adriatik Lalla, has not been involved in the discussions or the incident.
When contacted by Top Channel, the President of the Association of Prosecutors, Shkelqim Hajdari, and also President of the Appeal in Tirana, said that he had no comment.
“I never punched anyone and no one punched me. I have notified the President and the Prime Minister, and I expect them to resolve the situation”, Hajdari declared.
