On Sunday, Bulgarians voted in their general elections, returning Boris Borisov’s party to power.

As is reported, Albanians in Albania also participated in these elections, those of which Bulgaria recognizes as its minority and provided them with passports.

In some areas of Albania, voting centers have opened, such as this one in Korça, in the southeast of Albania, where at least 100 people are registered members of the Bulgarian minority.

The Bulgarian ambassador to Albania, Momtchil Raytchevski, confirmed the development.

“Bulgarian citizens in Albania can vote in the general elections for the Bulgarian Assembly, which can be tourists from Bulgaria as well as Albanian citizens who have received Bulgarian citizenship, and have chosen to continue living and working here.

“In Korça, I cannot tell you the exact number, but there are about 100 people announced on the website of the Central Election Commission”, said Ambassador Raytchevski.

In the voting center in Korça, it is reported that 70 voters cast their ballot, one of whom was Dhimitër Nikolla:

“For several years there was a clash between the Bulgarian and Macedonian minorities, who claim the same areas of Albania for their minorities. For several years, Albania has officially accepted that there is a Bulgarian community living here who have now been provided with passports”, NIkolla said.
