Importers from Albania to Kosovo have expressed their concern regarding
the barriers that they say are hampering the development of trade
between the two countries.
The main concern for Kosovo businesses that import goods from Albania is the 72 EUR transportation cost, higher than in other countries.
“Such barriers are a very wrong policy. I do not understand how Kosovo’s products don’t have a cheaper approach to Albania and vice versa”, says Fatmir Syla, who imports cement from Albania.
This is the reason why the Community of Importing Firms from Albania invited the Ambassador of Albania to Kosovo, Qemal Minxhozi, who said the governments of both countries are working intensively to facilitate the procedures in both sides of the border.
“We are looking the possibilities to harmonize things and soon there will be no differentiated transportation tax between Albania and Kosovo. It will be unique. Secondly, we will make all efforts for this tax to be as low as possible. By the end of the month, the Albanian fiscal and customs institutions will hold a second meeting to Tirana, after the one held in Prizren three months ago. Working groups have been established and we are working intensively to answer to these requests better”, declared Ambassador Minxhozi.
The Ministry of Finances in Kosovo said for Top Channel that they have discussed the planning of an administrative instruction for defining the transportation costs of goods imported to Kosovo.
“We have received requests and recommendations that have been discussed this Monday in a joint meeting. In this meeting it has also been discussed the methodology that was used for planning this administrative instruction. This instruction will end soon”, says the answer of the Ministry of Finances.
