A new tragedy with illegal immigrants has taken place why they were trying to enter Greece through the Turkish borders.
The marine received a signal for a 12 meter luxury yacht drowning 5 miles north of the Greek islands. The salvage operation started once again. The authorities were informed that illegal immigrants were jumping at sea after the ship started taking water.
36 immigrants were saved, three women and one child among them. The authorities found the bodies of two drowned women and are looking for other survivors, since the boats had more than 65 people.
Six weeks ago, at least seven illegal immigrants died, with two children among them, near the Lesvos Island.
Greece has asked help from the European Union and the Frontex troops, which have been helping the Greek institutions for more than two years.
The Greek Marine have been often criticized for violence against illegal immigrants. On January 2014, the European Union asked an investigation for a tragedy in Farmakonisi, close to Turkey, where 12 immigrants didn’t receive help from the Coastal Guard, who let them drown in the Aegean Sea.
