IMF: Tax collection to be improved by October

31/07/2015 00:00

The IMF explains for the first time in public why they didn’t sign the
next agreement with the Albanian government. According to the IMF
representative to Tirana, Jens Reinke, the cause was the weak revenue
collection for which the IMF asked the government to take measures.

In the first five months of this year, the revenues from customs and taxes were 11 billion ALL shorter than the plan. Some of the reasons, according to Reinke, are the dropped oil price, lower interest rate and lower inflation, but also the implementation of the tax regulations, a problem with the administration, since taxes are not that low in Albania.

For this reason, the Albanian Prime Minister warned a wide operation against tax evasion, but the talks with the IMF are suspended until the revenues are better.
