IMF: Positive signals in economy

The International Monetary Fund declares that the economy is getting
better and the positive signals that started by the end of the year have
been consolidated, showing a return of the trust in economy.

“As expected, this time we are seeing more positive signals than in the last time. What are these signals? Agriculture has progressed. We see a positive trend in some manufacturing sectors, like textiles and shoes. These sectors are oriented towards export, and this is always a positive signal for the small economies like Albania. I think that the basis of this is returning the trust to the economy, from the reviving policies of the government. Another reason is the fact that old debts were paid, and this has injected liquidity in the market and is helping making the economy recover”, declared the Chief of the IMF in Albania, Nadeem Ilahi.

The Chief of the IMF says that despite there have no huge improvements, the government’s fiscal rendiment is on line with the initial expectancy and it is not a concern for the financial stability.

“The progress of the revenues has been reasonably well. There are no huge improvements or huge shortfalls. It is within our expectancies, more or less. Some of the taxes have progressed better than others. The excise, for example, has been weaker than what we expected. We are talking with the government to find the cause, and we hope they will get fixed in the future. The other taxes have progressed well. In general we can say that the fiscal performance makes no huge concern for us now”, Nadeem Ilahi declared.

One of the problems with the budget is the failure to realize investigatments, which could hit the economic growth.

“We have had a lower execution with the public investments. We will discuss it with the government about their progress in the months to come, because it could stop the ecionomic growth. But the economic growth so far is on the same line that we had been waiting since the beginning of the year, and there is no reason to review our evaluations for the economic growth of this year”, Ilahi declared.
