IMF brings DP back to Parliament

The agreement between the government and the International Monetary Fund
will return the Democratic Party in a normal parliamentary debate, at
least for one of the discussion points.

The opposition will be part of the debate since Albania will take a 330 million EUR loan from the IMF in the next three years.

The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, says that the government cannot hide its failures which were proved through the International Monetary Fund agreement. Basha says that with this agreement, the government vows to stop raising salaries and pensions, and to increase the energy price.

“The government’s meeting with the International Monetary Fund is a huge auto-exposure of the falsity and electoral lies about economy. The government is trying to avoid these facts. We have the duty to stop this avoidance. We will do it from this Thursday, in Parliament, and will continue throughout Albania. This is the ethical battle for all Albanians, which will continue relentlessly”, declared the Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha.

According to the Democratic Party, official data show alarming figures for the economy, as regards the collection of revenues.

“Levied excise taxes will add $120 million to the budget, but for the first two months they have collected 10 million less. The growth of revenues is one fifth of what had been planned. A failure of these proportion has not been seen in the past 23 years. Mistakes are human, but a mistake of this proportion makes one lose credibility and unable to guarantee anything”, Basha declared.

The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha says that the Prime Minister cannot hide the failure of his government by encouraging political conflicts.

“A historic plunge of consumption is the most clear evidence about the dark economic perspective we have today. This behavior shows that citizens are expecting worse days in the future and consider this government as a problem to be solved, not the solution of their problems”, Basha declared.

Economy, SP: DP dims reality

The Socialist Party reacted after the opposition declared that the economic figures in Albania are alarming. The Socialist Party representative, Ervin Bushati, accused the Democratic Party of putting our country in the deepest economic crisis during the past eight years.

“We heard the same refrain from the Democratic Party. They are saying that the economy is not going on the right direction. What they did for eight years, was plunging our economy into a crisis. They are responsible and that’s why they are the last ones who should talk about this”, Bushati declared.

According to him, the opposition are trying to spread uncertainty through lies, while the reality is different.

“It is true that the Democratic Party government plunged our country in an economic crisis, but the new government is offering security for economic growth. The honest tax has increased salaries for 97% of the Albanains. The small business tax has been removed and tax on profit for small businesses has been reduced. Large businesses are feeling a new climate of partnership with the government”, Bushati underlined.

He emphasized that after eight years of stalemate, the legalization process has finally started and the left centered government kept another important promise.

“What’s more important for economy, the debts created by the former government are being paid by the new one, creating an economic stimulus of 1.1 billion USD” Bushati declared.
