“IMF Agreement ends crisis”

The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, reiterated in today’s
Parliamentary session that the International Monetary Fund agreement,
much criticized by the opposition, is positive and balances the finances
of Albania.

“We are proud of this agreement. We are working to return the financial balance and our agreement offers guarantee for an economic growth”, Rama declared.

The government leader underlined that the agreement is vital for the country’s economy, considering the financial abyss they found the country in after the June 23rd elections.

“The agreement was signed after we found the country with a mountain of debts. Thanks to this agreement we started a new phase and our economy will start growing”, Rama declared.

After emphasizing that the International Monetary Fund agreement doesn’t foresee austerity measures, new taxes or an increase of the current ones, the government leader listed the new results of the tax and customs administrations.

“Taxes have collected 900 million ALL more in the first trimester, and 130 million USD more for the first six months of our government”, Rama declared.

The Albanian former Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, considered Rama’s economic plan a copy of the Greek scenario, which will destroy our country’s economy.

The discussion for the controversial agreement started this Thursday morning. The Minister of Finances, Shkelqim Cani, declared that the agreement would not increase taxes, while the opposition considered it an evidence of failure and incompetence of the current government, and a slavery for our citizens and economy.

The Minister of Finances, Shkelqim Cani: “Taxes will not be raised. Salaries and pensions will not be lowered. On the contrary, 97% of Albanians have directly and indirectly had a salary increase since January 1st 2014.

Democratic Party Parliament Member, Sali Berisha: Do you think that Albanians believe these lies, that you lowered their taxes? This is extreme cynicism. Do you think Albanians will applaud you that you will charge taxes on them for every ticket trip? That you will arise taxes for used cars at 50%? You will move the retirement age to 67 years for the people who has suffered more in Europe”.

Shkelqim Cani: The documents published by the Albanian government and the International Monetary Fund clearly show how every problem will be faced. It is abusive to say that there will be lower salaries and higher taxes. It is not true, because these are not part of the negotiations and our talks with the International Monetary Fund.

Berisha: This agreement is hell for you. This is the worst burden put on the shoulders of the Albanian citizens for the past 23 years. With this agreement, the International Monetary Fund shows that they do not trust you.
