Imami: No drug traffic during DP government

16/04/2014 00:00

The former Minister of Defense, Arben Imami, denied the information
published by newspapers and saying that the Secret Service had been
notified the highest state authorities since 2012 about the army being
used for drug traffic.

“During the Democratic Party term in power we had no information about the usage of the military infrastructure for trafficking narcotics”, Imami declared.

The Democratic Party believes that these accusations are a diversion of the current government for not answering the accusations raised by the opposition, saying that the Albanian army has been used for drug traffic.

The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, considered as unprecedented the government’s decision to not accept a hearing session with the Minister of Defense on this issue. The opposition says that they are waiting answers only from the Prime Minister.

“The question issue that the Prime Minister cannot avoid is whether he has information about the usage of the army infrastructure for traffic of narcotics. If yes, what measures have been taken? This is a question not only of the opposition, but also of the public opinion. I am sure that our partners will also follow this question with a high interest. It is for the dignity of Albania as a NATO member, and the Prime Minister should answer and take his responsibilities about this question and the details connected to it. The silence and even worse, the refusal to answer, or the creation of illegal and artificial barriers, as in the case of Mr.Braho, only increases the suspects”, Basha declared.

The usage of the military for drug traffic is one of the most serious accusations made in the pst two decades, and the Democratic Party has no intention to stop without an answer.

“I guarantee you that the opposition doesn’t have the moral right to withdraw from the right to transparency in this case”, Basha declared.

Basha meets Ambassadors

“We deserve the status. We reported the government for illegal actions”.

The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, communicated with journalists after a long meeting with diplomatic representatives form the European Union, the United States of America and the OSCE in Tirana. The focus of this meeting was European Union integration and the political situation.

“The Democratic Party considers that Albania deserves the status. We encouraged the ambassadors to encourage their governments for a positive decision in June, leaving this matter aside from the problems that the government has created with the rule of law”, Basha declared.

Giving their full support for the status in June, the Democratic Party doesn’t hesitate to make public their concern for what they consider an anti-democratic course of the current government.

“We will continue reporting these concerns. We will face them, because that is the only method to serve to the final cause, which is Albania’s European Union membership. We cannot enter Europe by violating the law and the Constitution, by not implementing the court verdicts, by usurping independent institutions or by ruining the balance control and power division”, Basha declared.
