While the entire state administration’s attention is focused on the electoral campaign and politics, several illegal constructions are being built up around the Albanian capital.
A few meters from the Municipality, a new store is being added to a building and workers continue their job in broad daylight without being bothered by anyone.
Other constructions are being made in the May 1st Park, where some owners have used mdoern technology and ended the construction very quickly. Other constructions are still working fast, so that they can end everything before the Election Day.
Residents feel intimidated and refuse to speak in front of the cameras, although some of them say that their TV antennas or water deposits have been damaged and that no one has asked their opinion about these constructions. They say that they have complained to the Tirana Municipality and the Construction Inspectorate, but the employees in these offices have turned into mediators by collecting money on the verge of elections.
They appear only if one of the owners is late on paying a fine. In fact, no one would dare undertake these conditions if the Construction Inspectorate was clean. Local unit leaders who administer the territories say that they have made several reports to the Tirana Municipal Police, but they never answered for support.
